Ten minutes now saves the argument in six months about why you chose this.
A one-page decision log entry that records what was chosen, what was rejected, what was believed at the time, and when to look again.
Teams re-argue old decisions because the reasons were never written down. Six months later the choice looks either obvious or foolish depending on how it turned out, and nobody can say what was known at the time, or who disagreed.
Decision Log records the choice while it is fresh. One sentence for the decision, the options that lost, the reasons, and the assumptions marked as checked or assumed. It adds a revisit date with an observable trigger, records dissent in the dissenter's words, and checks that a stranger could read it cold.
What it produces.
- →A one-sentence decision with owner and date
- →The options considered, including doing nothing, and why each lost
- →Reasons and assumptions, each marked checked or assumed
- →A revisit date and the signal that would reopen the decision
- ✦Managers whose teams keep reopening settled questions
- ✦Operators changing tools, policies, or suppliers
- ✦Founders who want an honest record of what they knew
This Playbook records a decision that has been made. It does not help you make one, so it includes no assumption testing, stakeholder mapping, or argument against your leaning option. The Decision Brief Tool is for that: it structures the thinking on a high-stakes choice before you commit. Use Decision Log afterward, as the short record of what you chose.

How is this different from just asking Claude directly?
Asked cold, Claude summarizes the decision as a tidy rationale written with hindsight. This records it as it stood: marks which assumptions were checked, logs dissent, sets a revisit trigger, and numbers the entry so it can be found again.
How is this different from a Tool?
Playbooks are systematically produced to a fixed template and priced accordingly ($12.99). Tools are hand-built, one at a time, and go deeper ($39 to $199). A Playbook gives you a reliable method for routine work; a Tool is for when the judgment matters more than the format.
Will this work with ChatGPT, Gemini, and other LLMs?
Yes. You get a native Claude Skill (.zip) that auto-invokes in Claude, plus a plain .md you can paste into a ChatGPT Custom GPT, a Gemini system prompt, or any LLM. The procedure travels with the file.
Can I share this with my team?
It's licensed for your own personal and professional use. The output it produces is yours to circulate. To put the Playbook itself in the hands of a whole team, email hello@authority.md about team licensing.
