What exactly is a Claude Skill?
Claude Skills are Anthropic's official format for extending Claude with specialist knowledge. Each Skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file with YAML frontmatter — name and description — that tells Claude when to apply it. Claude reads the description and auto-invokes the skill when your question matches. Introduced October 2025, Skills work across Claude.ai, Claude Code, and the Claude API.
Do these skills work automatically?
