Marc Andreessen built products and companies by reasoning from first principles in industries that the incumbents considered mature. Marc Andreessen's product and strategy thinking, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.

The software eating the world framework distils Marc Andreessen's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.

Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Marc Andreessen made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Marc Andreessen's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.

Inside the framework

A glimpse of Marc Andreessen's thinking.

Core Philosophy

Every industry that can be transformed by software will be transformed by software—the only question is timing and execution. The companies that survive are those that become software companies first, everything else second. Physical constraints are temporary; software constraints compound into permanent advantages.

The brief

A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.

Take the client, but only on terms that turn their difficulty into your product. A large, demanding customer is either a services trap or a forcing function, and which one it becomes depends on a single question: does the pain they bring show up in every other company in their category? If the answer is yes, this client is a free R&D lab with a budget. Their ugly workflows, their absurd integration demands, their compliance maze are the exact requirements the whole market has been tolerating because no one rebuilt the software. Solve it once, cleanly, and you own a template for every competitor of theirs.

If the answer is no, and they want bespoke features, custom reporting, and a dedicated team that can never be reused, you are quietly becoming a consultancy with one very loud shareholder. Walk away from that, however good the contract looks.

The test is in the structure of the deal. Insist that everything built lands in the core product, owned by you, available to all customers. Cap customization hours. Price the contract so that a slip in their priorities does not sink your payroll, because concentration risk is real and a founder who depends on one logo negotiates like a vendor, not a platform.

Next move: this week, ask their team to walk you through the three workflows they hate most, then check whether you could ship those as general features. If you can, sign. If you can't, decline.

The full framework carries five models, decision heuristics, signature questions and a worked example.
