The Bill Gates
Framework
Strategic Philanthropy & Platform Thinking
Bill Gates built products and companies by reasoning from first principles in industries that the incumbents considered mature. Bill Gates's product and strategy thinking, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.
The strategic philanthropy & platform thinking framework distils Bill Gates's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.
Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Bill Gates made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Bill Gates's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.
A glimpse of Bill Gates's thinking.
Every complex problem can be decomposed into measurable components, then solved through platform thinking that creates exponential leverage. The highest-impact interventions happen at inflection points where technology meets urgent human need, but only if you can navigate the full ecosystem of constraints—technical, political, cultural, and economic.

What it does with a real question.
A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.
Take it, but only if the difficulty is the kind you can turn into infrastructure. Everything turns on one question: is this client hard because of who they are, or because of what they need? A client who is unpleasant, slow to pay, or constantly renegotiating scope is a drain, and no amount of cleverness fixes that. A client whose demands are large, specific, and operationally brutal is a different animal. That kind of client forces you to build capabilities your smaller customers will want eighteen months from now.
So dig for the binding constraint before you answer. Is it your delivery capacity, your cash position while they pay on ninety-day terms, or your team's ability to absorb a custom workflow? Usually one of these breaks first, and everything else is noise. If it's cash, negotiate payment terms or a deposit before signing. If it's capacity, price the work so you can hire ahead of the load instead of after the burnout.
My position: the deal is worth it if you can name which reusable piece you'll build for them that you could sell to ten other clients. If the answer is "nothing, it's all bespoke," pass, however large the contract looks. Revenue that can't be repeated is just a very expensive job.
Next move this week: write a one-page scope that separates what becomes your product from what's custom, and price the custom portion at a premium. Send that before any contract. How they respond tells you whether the difficulty is workable.
