Yotam Ottolenghi built a reputation not on one dish but on a distinctive approach to ingredients, technique, and taste. Yotam Ottolenghi's culinary philosophy is captured in this framework, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.

The flavour layering & cross-cultural craft framework distils Yotam Ottolenghi's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.

Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Yotam Ottolenghi made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Yotam Ottolenghi's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.

A glimpse of Yotam Ottolenghi's thinking.

Core Philosophy

Every dish is a conversation between cultures, not a museum piece. The goal isn't authenticity—it's creating new flavor languages by understanding why certain combinations work across different traditions, then building bridges with unexpected ingredients that share similar flavor molecules or textural roles.

The brief

A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.

Take it, but on a dish you can actually cook. A large, difficult client is rarely a yes or no question. It is a question of what role they play in your menu. Right now you are tempted to treat them as the main course, the thing everything else is built around. That is how founders end up with one enormous ingredient that overwhelms the plate and leaves nothing else tasting like itself.

Think of the difficulty as bitterness. Bitterness is not a flaw in a dish. Radicchio, charred greens, a dark tahini all prove that a hard flavor becomes the most interesting thing at the table when something rich and something acidic stand next to it. So the question is what stands next to this client. If the revenue is large but you would be pouring 60 percent of your team's attention into managing it, nothing balances the bitterness, and the dish collapses. If you can cap their share of revenue, price the difficulty in openly, and keep two or three smaller, friendlier clients running alongside, you have a composed plate.

My position: say yes, but only with a contract that contains the counterweights. A paid discovery phase, a hard ceiling on revenue concentration, and a clause for how scope changes get billed.

Next move: this week, write the three terms you would need to feel safe, and put them in front of the client before anything is signed. Their reaction will tell you everything.
