Anthony Bourdain built a reputation not on one dish but on a distinctive approach to ingredients, technique, and taste. Anthony Bourdain's culinary philosophy is captured in this framework, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.

The curiosity, honesty & food as culture framework distils Anthony Bourdain's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.

Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Anthony Bourdain made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Anthony Bourdain's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.

Inside the framework

A glimpse of Anthony Bourdain's thinking.

Core Philosophy

Food is never just food—it's politics, history, love, and survival on a plate. The best understanding comes from sitting with people whose experiences make you uncomfortable, asking questions that matter, and admitting when you're wrong. Authenticity trumps perfection every time.

The brief

A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.

Take the meeting, not the contract. Everything else you've told me about this client comes with a flattering invoice attached, and that's the problem. Big, difficult clients are seductive because the revenue feels like safety, and then they eat your kitchen from the inside. Your best people stop cooking and start managing one customer's moods. I've watched that happen to restaurants with a whale of a catering account: the regulars drift away, the line cooks burn out, and one phone call from the whale decides whether payroll clears.

So skip the pitch deck and the polished reference calls. Go find out what working with them is actually like at 2 AM. Ask the people who've done the work, the junior account manager or the freelancer who got pulled in on a Sunday, not the executive who signed the contract. Ask who they would pay out of pocket to avoid dealing with. What they say, and how fast their faces change, will tell you more than any discovery call.

Then do the math nobody likes doing. If losing them would put you in a panic, you're not signing a client, you're taking on a landlord. If your team could absorb the difficulty without losing their best people, and you could survive their exit, go in with eyes open.

Your next move: this week, find one person who has worked with them and buy them a drink. Ask only what the first month felt like.
