A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.
Take the client only if you can design the terms. The mistake founders make here is treating the decision as a vote on revenue. It is really a question about what structure you will be weaving into your company. A large, difficult client does not just add a thread. It pulls on everything adjacent: your best engineers get reassigned, your roadmap bends toward their requests, and your other customers quietly receive less of you. Before you say yes, map what that one account will touch.
Difficulty itself is not the disqualifier. Difficulty that is unbounded is. If the client's demands can be fenced by a tight scope, a change-order process, and pricing that reflects the true cost of serving them, then the hard client becomes a forcing function that makes your delivery sharper. If they will only sign by blurring those fences, they are asking you to fund their uncertainty with your capacity, and you should decline.
Also ask what you are really being paid in. A flagship name that makes the next ten sales easier is worth a premium of discomfort. Cash alone from a draining account is not, because it hollows out the team that earns all future cash.
