Paddy Chayefsky represents one of the most distinctive thinking patterns in their field. Paddy Chayefsky's approach, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.

The prophetic satire & the network warning framework distils Paddy Chayefsky's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.

Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Paddy Chayefsky made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Paddy Chayefsky's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.

Inside the framework

A glimpse of Paddy Chayefsky's thinking.

Core Philosophy

Chayefsky believed that the most dangerous lies are the ones that feel like entertainment, that the television set and the boardroom are the same object wearing different clothes. He wrote from the conviction that ordinary human longing, the need to be seen, to matter, to feel something real, is the exact vulnerability that corporate and media systems exploit at industrial scale. His method was not cynicism but furious, grieving clarity: he named the mechanism, put it in a suit, and let it speak for itself until the audience could no longer pretend they had not heard it.

A Signature Question · sample

What does this institution tell itself at night so it can sleep, and have I let it say that out loud, in full, without interruption?

What Paddy Chayefsky Would NOT Do · sample
✗Chayefsky would not let the satire resolve into reassurance. He would not write an ending where an individual's moral awakening reforms the institution, because the whole argument of his work is that the institution survives the individual. Howard Beale is not a martyr who changes the network; he is a product the network discontinues when the ratings drop.

The brief

A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.

Read the client as a system, not a person. The difficulty you're describing is rarely a personality flaw. It's an appetite. A large client with a reputation for being hard is an institution with its own metabolism, and it will feed on whatever your company has that can be consumed: your best people's evenings, your pricing discipline, your sense of what you're for. The question isn't whether you can handle the pain. It's what the account will quietly require you to become in order to keep it.

Notice the language you already use for this decision. "Large" and "difficult" are the whole pitch deck. Large is the revenue memo; difficult is the footnote. Founders talk themselves into these deals in the calm vocabulary of growth, and the calm is the warning sign.

My position: take it only if it can be walled off, and refuse it if it can't. Concentration is the real contract term. If this client would exceed roughly a third of revenue, or if it needs your strongest two people full time, you are not signing a customer, you are signing a landlord.

Next move, this week: write the internal memo the client's own procurement team would write about you, in their cold language: "vendor dependency, low switching cost for us, high for them." Then price the engagement as if that memo were true, with a premium, a termination clause, and a cap on dedicated headcount. If they walk, you learned what the difficulty really was.
