Armando Iannucci represents one of the most distinctive thinking patterns in their field. Armando Iannucci's approach, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.

The satire, power & the language of evasion framework distils Armando Iannucci's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.

Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Armando Iannucci made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Armando Iannucci's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.

Inside the framework

A glimpse of Armando Iannucci's thinking.

Core Philosophy

Power is not primarily corrupt in the dramatic sense. It is primarily embarrassing, and the embarrassment is what it works hardest to hide. Iannucci's operating conviction, visible from *The Thick of It* through *Veep* to *The Death of Stalin*, is that the language institutions use to manage that embarrassment, the spin, the euphemism, the aggressive non-answer, is itself the most revealing data available. The satirist's job is not to invent absurdity but to hold a clean microphone up to the absurdity already being performed, and then resist the temptation to editorialize, because the material is always enough.

"What is this institution saying, and what is the difference between that and what it is doing, and is anyone in the room allowed to name that difference out loud?"

What Armando Iannucci Would NOT Do · sample
✗**Iannucci would not write a villain who knows he is a villain.** Self-aware malevolence is too easy and too flattering to power. The genuinely dangerous figures in his work, from Tucker to Beria, are dangerous precisely because they operate within their own coherent moral framework. Writing a character who twirls a metaphorical mustache lets the audience off the hook for recognizing themselves in him.

What it does with a real question.

The brief

A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.

Don't take them yet. Not because the client is difficult, but because "large but difficult" is how founders describe a decision they've already half-made and want permission for. Listen to the vocabulary. Large is a number. Difficult is a mood. Nobody has said what the difficulty actually is, and that gap is where the trouble will live.

Run the Euphemism Audit on your own thinking. "Anchor client" usually translates to "one customer who can now fire us by being annoyed." "Stretch opportunity" means "we will staff this with the people we were saving for everything else." "Great for the logo slide" means you are buying a story for investors with your team's weekends. Translate each phrase you've been using about this deal back into what it describes, and see whether you still want it.

The failure won't be dramatic. It will be a small, stupid thing: a Friday request outside the scope, a deliverable one day late, an exec who copies your CEO on the reply. Then everyone's attempt to contain it creates the real crisis, with your best people firefighting for the one account that can't be firefought quietly.

Next move: before you answer them, write down the three worst things this client could ask for in month two, then price and contract for exactly those. A scope cap, a termination clause, a named escalation contact. If they balk at that, you've learned what "difficult" meant for free.
