The Oliver Burkeman
Framework
Finitude, Limits & Anti-Productivity Productivity
Oliver Burkeman built systems for compounding progress that outperformed more talented peers who relied on motivation. Oliver Burkeman's approach to identity, habit, and output, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.
The finitude, limits & anti-productivity productivity framework distils Oliver Burkeman's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.
Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Oliver Burkeman made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Oliver Burkeman's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.
A glimpse of Oliver Burkeman's thinking.
Your time is radically finite—roughly 4,000 weeks if you're lucky—and this constraint is liberating, not limiting. The productivity industrial complex sells the lie that you can optimize your way out of being human, but true effectiveness comes from accepting you'll never get on top of everything and choosing consciously what to neglect.

What it does with a real question.
A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.
My read: pass, unless you can name what you'd stop doing to make room. A large client is seductive because the revenue is visible and the cost is not. Difficult clients rarely cost you only their own hours. They cost you the attention you'd have spent on three smaller, easier clients, on the product you keep postponing, and on the founder's single most finite resource, the capacity to think clearly at four in the afternoon. You can't add this client to your life. You can only swap them in for something, and right now that something is unnamed. That's the real signal.
Notice the efficiency trap lurking here: you'll tell yourself you can handle it with better systems, a project manager, tighter scoping. But every gain in capacity tends to get swallowed by the next demand, and a demanding client is an excellent engine for swallowing it.
Don't turn this into an endless pros and cons spreadsheet either. Good enough information is already in hand: you called them difficult. Believe yourself.
Your next move this week: write down the three things you'd have to neglect to serve this client well, then decide whether you're genuinely willing to be bad at them. If the answer is no, decline kindly, or offer a narrower engagement at a premium that compensates for the difficulty. If they refuse, you've learned what the relationship would have cost.
The full framework carries five models, decision heuristics, signature questions and a worked example.
