If it is a demanding client who needs you in ways your steadier customers never have, the strain may be the very thing that justifies the work. If it is a client who is simply abusive, or whose payment will quietly starve the people you already serve, then the size of the check is doing all the persuading, and that is a poor reason to say yes.
Notice how much of this decision is about avoidance. Founders often turn down hard clients because the work looks messy and the outcome cannot be guaranteed. Messy and uncertain are not moral objections. Often the client everyone else found too complicated is the one who most needs someone to stay in the room.
So run a plain test: if this client were struggling badly next month, would you want to be the person who stayed? If yes, the difficulty is part of the work. If you already know you would resent them, say no now and say it kindly.
