Can this replace teacher training or a qualified educator?
No. Teaching is a practice learned through classroom experience, supervision, and feedback from students and senior educators who observe what is actually happening in the room. These frameworks describe the documented thinking of specific educators, which is useful preparation and context; they do not substitute for the craft knowledge that accumulates through practice, nor for the specific regulatory and safeguarding knowledge that qualified teaching requires. Use them to inform how you think about learning design, not as a credential.
Are the older frameworks (Dewey, Montessori, Freire) still relevant?
Yes. Dewey's experiential learning model and Montessori's prepared environment remain the most cogent critiques of transmission-based schooling, and neither has been superseded — the mainstream has simply continued to ignore them. Freire's banking model critique is if anything more relevant in the era of automated content delivery and AI tutors. The age of the framework is less important than whether the underlying observation about how people learn is accurate; in each case, the evidence since publication has supported rather than undermined the core claim.
Are these useful for corporate training and workplace learning?
Yes, directly. The build trap that Melissa Perri describes in product management — measuring output rather than outcome — has an exact parallel in corporate learning: measuring completion rates rather than capability change. Freire's dialogue model applies to any facilitated session where the goal is genuine insight rather than information delivery.
