A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.
Read the charge before the contract. Before you weigh revenue against hassle, notice how you feel about this client. If your pulse jumped at the size of the deal, or your stomach dropped at the word "difficult," that reaction is data, and it will tell you more than the spreadsheet will.
My position: do not take it yet, and certainly not tonight. Large, difficult clients are rarely a pricing problem. They are usually a test of something the founder has not settled in himself. Some founders reach for the big client because the Hero in them wants proof of worth; others flinch from it because they cannot tolerate being disliked. Either way, the decision is being made by a part of you that has not been named, and that part will also be the one negotiating scope, absorbing abuse, and deciding whether to say no in month four.
Look closely at the word "difficult." Whatever specifically irritates you about this client, the bluntness, the entitlement, the demands, is likely a quality you have not made peace with in yourself. That is exactly why it would run your company from inside.
Next move: write two paragraphs, one arguing passionately for taking the client and one against, then notice which one you wrote with more heat. Take that draft to your cofounder or advisor and say what you found. If you still want the client afterward, take it with a written scope and a termination clause, deliberately and not as a rescue.
