A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.
Take the deal only if you can write it as a procedure. The temptation here is to treat "large but difficult" as a single judgment about the client's personality. Decompose it instead. Difficulty is rarely one thing. It is a handful of discrete operations repeating: scope gets reopened, approvals stall, invoices run late, requests arrive outside the channel you agreed on. So my position: do not decide on revenue. Decide on whether you can reduce this client's behavior to a fixed sequence of steps that someone on your team, with no special charm or history with them, could execute correctly. If handling them requires you personally, your intuition and your late nights, you are not buying a client, you are buying a dependency on yourself, and the size of the contract will hide that cost until it is too late to leave.
The test is cheap. Ask what you would have to build to serve them: a change-request gate, a payment schedule that front-loads cash, a single point of contact, a written definition of done. Then price the build into the deal. If they accept those terms, the difficulty becomes manageable machinery. If they refuse the structure, they have told you what the engagement will really cost.
