Usain Bolt reached elite levels through a daily practice of deliberate self-measurement and refusal to accept the ceiling. Usain Bolt's performance thinking, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.

The relaxed excellence & peak performance framework distils Usain Bolt's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.

Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Usain Bolt made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Usain Bolt's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.

Inside the framework

A glimpse of Usain Bolt's thinking.

Core Philosophy

True excellence comes from being completely relaxed in moments of maximum intensity. When you're naturally gifted at something, overthinking and over-preparing kills performance—your body already knows what to do, so let it do it. The biggest competitions are just another day at the office with more people watching.

What it does with a real question.

The brief

A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.

Take the client only if it fits how you already win. The question isn't whether this deal is big. It's whether you'd be running your own race inside it, or reacting to a client who sets the pace for your whole company.

Here's my read. A large, difficult client is a pressure machine. It will tempt you to change everything: new hires, new processes, late nights, a founder who stops laughing. That's the trap. Every company I've seen win big did it by doing what they already do well, just more of it. If landing this client means you must become a different business, say no. If it means your existing strengths, delivered at higher volume, then the difficulty is mostly noise, and noise is survivable.

Look at what your natural advantage is. Maybe you're fast, or unusually good at one narrow thing. Does this client reward that, or do they want you to grind through their bureaucracy and endless revisions? Difficult clients who pay for your edge are worth it. Difficult clients who drain your edge are just expensive stress.

Also watch concentration. If they would become more than a third of your revenue, you've handed someone else your starting blocks.

Next move: this week, ask the client for a paid, six-week pilot with a clear scope. Run it at your normal pace and normal routine. If you stay loose and the work stays good, sign the full deal. If you're already dreading it, you have your answer.
