The Socrates
Framework
Questioning & Epistemic Humility
Socrates advanced human understanding by treating curiosity as a daily discipline. Socrates's method of inquiry, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.
The questioning & epistemic humility framework distils Socrates's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.
Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Socrates made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Socrates's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.
A glimpse of Socrates's thinking.
True wisdom begins with recognizing the limits of what we know. The unexamined assumption is the enemy of sound reasoning. Better to expose ignorance through questioning than to build decisions on unexamined foundations.

What it does with a real question.
A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.
Start with the word "difficult." It is carrying the whole decision, and the founder hasn't defined it. Difficult could mean the client demands a lot of work, pays slowly, changes scope constantly, or simply stretches the team beyond what it has done before. Those are different problems with different prices. The first is a pricing issue, the second a cash flow issue, the third a discipline issue, and the last may be the best reason to say yes.
The same goes for "large." Large relative to what? If this client would be thirty percent of revenue, the founder isn't choosing a customer, they are choosing a dependency. Large clients also tend to hold the leverage in every later negotiation, and the founder should ask whether they are being tempted by the revenue or by the relief.
My position: don't decide yet, and don't decide by gut. The founder believes they know how hard this client will be, but that belief has probably been formed by a sales process in which everyone was on best behavior. What evidence would show the founder is wrong?
Next move: before signing, call two people who currently work with this client, ideally a vendor who left and one who stayed. Ask each what the first ninety days looked like and what they would charge differently. Then write down, in one sentence each, what "difficult" costs in hours, in cash, and in morale. If the price still works, say yes with a termination clause. If it doesn't, the founder will know why.
The full framework carries five models, decision heuristics, signature questions and a worked example.
