The Ryan Holiday
Framework
Stoic Practice & Perennial Writing
Ryan Holiday shaped how their era thought about itself through distinctive voice and observational rigour. Ryan Holiday's intellectual method, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.
The stoic practice & perennial writing framework distils Ryan Holiday's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.
Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Ryan Holiday made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Ryan Holiday's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.
A glimpse of Ryan Holiday's thinking.
The obstacle becomes the way—every impediment contains the seed of equal or greater benefit. Focus on what you control: your effort, your response, your next action. Build work that serves timeless human needs rather than fleeting cultural moments.

What it does with a real question.
A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.
Take the client, but only on terms that serve the work.
Start by separating what you control from what you don't. You cannot control how demanding this client is, how they treat your people, or whether they renew. You can control the contract, the scope, the price, and how you respond when it gets hard. That inventory tells you most of what you need.
The difficulty itself is not a reason to decline. Hard clients are often where a young company learns to build real systems: documented processes, clear boundaries, a team that can absorb pressure. If the obstacle is going to teach you something, this one probably will. But a large client is also seductive, and the question to ask is whether ego is doing the deciding. Does the logo flatter you more than the work would improve you? If you imagine nobody ever hearing who your client was, would you still say yes?
My position: accept, but write the difficulty into the deal. Price in the extra management cost, cap the revenue concentration so no single client exceeds roughly a third of the business, and define scope changes in writing before you start. If they refuse reasonable terms, that refusal is your answer, and you lose nothing you'd have wanted to keep.
Next move: before you reply to them, write down the three behaviors from this client you would fire them for. Share that list with your team first, then build it into the contract.
