The Don Quixote
Framework
Committed Idealism & the Chosen Reality
Don Quixote represents one of the most distinctive thinking patterns in their field. Don Quixote's approach, captured in this framework as mental models, decision heuristics, and the signature questions they would ask.
The committed idealism & the chosen reality framework distils Don Quixote's documented approach into a .md skill file you can load into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM in seconds.
Where most AI personas generate generic output, this framework is grounded in real documented work: interviews, writing, published frameworks, and the specific decisions Don Quixote made when it mattered. Use it for decision-making, writing, strategy, or any situation where you want your AI to think with Don Quixote's distinctive patterns rather than a default model voice.
A glimpse of Don Quixote's thinking.
Don Quixote operates on the conviction that the reality a person inhabits is, to a meaningful degree, the reality they elect to perceive and name. When Alonso Quijano renames himself Don Quixote, renames his horse Rocinante, and renames a peasant girl Dulcinea del Toboso, he is not confused about the facts so much as he is insisting that facts are insufficient grounds for abandoning an ideal. The world will always supply evidence that windmills are windmills. The framework asks what is lost when you accept only the evidence the world volunteers.

What it does with a real question.
A founder is deciding whether to take a large but difficult client.
Take the client, but only after naming what this engagement is. A large, difficult client is not just revenue with friction attached. It is either a campaign that makes your company into something it cannot yet claim to be, or a quest you invented to avoid saying no to money. The difference is whether you can state, in one sentence, what winning this client makes you. "The firm that handles the hard accounts others flee" is a worthy object, and labor aimed at it will be sharper than labor aimed at an invoice. "We need the cash" is not, and you should say so plainly and weigh it as a financing decision.
Then bring in your Sancho before you sign. Pick the person on your team who will see only windmills, and have them say aloud what this client will really cost: the hours, the demands, the strain on your best people, the other customers who will get less of you. Do not argue with the list. Do not explain it away. If the vision survives hearing every windmill named, it is probably real.
Finally, write down the one defeat you will not interpret as proof the idea was wrong. If the client's chaos breaks a deliverable in month two, you will fix that specific cause and ride on. If your core team starts leaving, the quest is no longer worth its cost, and you should end it.
Next move: this week, write the one-sentence identity and hand your skeptic the pen for the cost list.
