Positioning · Tool

Read what they're optimising for, then go where they can't follow.

The Tool that reads a competitor's marketing the way a strategist would: what they've decided matters, what their silence reveals, what their narrative implies about their roadmap, and three positioning moves they're structurally unable to copy.

IncludedNative Claude Skill + plain .md for ChatGPT, Gemini & every LLM

A competitor's marketing site is a confession. It tells you what they've decided matters, which means it also tells you what they've chosen to ignore. Most competitive analysis stops at the surface, listing features and copying the good ones. That's imitation, and imitation puts you on their ground where they're already winning. Steal Like a Strategist reads the site for what it reveals about their constraints, then finds positions those constraints stop them from defending. A venture-backed company can't credibly champion staying small. A feature-led one can't easily become outcome-led. A big one can't suddenly sound personal. The strongest move is one your competitor would have to become a different company to match. The Tool also names the move that isn't a positioning move at all, because positioning fights on the incumbent's chosen axis are usually losing fights, and the right answer is often to refuse the comparison entirely.

A worked example

What it actually does.

Worked example

You run a hands-on analytics consultancy against a fast-growing, venture-backed self-serve product. You paste their homepage. Steal Like a Strategist reads what they optimise for, volume of low-touch signups, hero is 'Dashboards in minutes', CTA is 'Start free', and what they've deprioritised, anything needing a human. The telling silence: no mention of what to do when the dashboard tells you something you don't understand. Their recent 'enterprise-ready' language implies they're moving upmarket and about to under-serve the solo user. Three moves they can't follow: sell interpretation not dashboards (breaks their self-serve margin), serve the executive who wants the answer not the tool (their funnel assumes a hands-on user), be the explicit anti-platform (their funding requires expansion revenue). And the non-positioning move: stop competing on analytics at all, position as a decision partner who happens to use data, and decline the comparison.

Questions

Before you buy.

How is this different from just asking Claude directly?

Ask Claude to 'analyse a competitor' and you get a feature list and some copy suggestions — surface imitation that puts you on their ground. Steal Like a Strategist reads their marketing for what it reveals about their constraints, then finds positions those constraints stop them from defending, plus the move that refuses the comparison entirely. It's looking for what they can't follow, not what you can copy.

Will this work with ChatGPT, Gemini, and other LLMs?

Yes. Native Claude Skill (.zip) plus a plain .md for ChatGPT, Gemini, or any LLM. You paste in the competitor's page or copy and the procedure runs the same way anywhere.

Can I share this with my team?

It's licensed for your own use; the positioning read it produces is yours to circulate internally. For deploying the Tool across a marketing or strategy team, email hello@authority.md about team licensing.

What if it doesn't work for me?

If the file hasn't been delivered, or is defective or empty, we refund in full — see the refund policy in our terms. It's a strategy tool that works from public marketing material; it can't see a competitor's internals and it won't invent a point of difference where you have none.
